Ah, awesome movie. Zombieland isn't your typical zombie horror film - uh-uh, it's better than that. Nor is it a typical comedy-horror film. No, Zombieland's better than that, too.
It's a comedy-horror film, that doesn't fail.
I'm pretty sure flaming films is considered slander, which is illegal, so I shan't give examples on... bad comedy-horror films. Peace out.
Zombieland is situated in post-apocalyptic America, where humanity has been torn to shreds, and zombies dominate the scene. These 'zombies' aren't your typical slow, staggering, decaying corpses. Uh-uh, these are humans who contracted a virus that screws up their minds and gives them a taste for blood. In other words, they are identical to humans apart from their alterred thinking.
Heh, the concept is almost identical to Left 4 Dead.
Also, like in L4D, there are four survivors. Instead of using their real names, however, they use places that relate to them - like how one of the main characters is called Columbus Ohio (after Columbus, Ohio). The four survivors are Columbus, Tallahasse, Wichita and Little Rock.
This isn't a film about the typical saving-the-world plot - no, this is about the survivors trying to survive in this new, screwed-up world. Initially, the survivors band together only because they're all heading in the same direction - but they end up getting bonded and decide to stick together afterall, because their friends and families are gone.
Okay, I suck at explaining plots. :x
So, if I were to give Zombieland a rating?
PLOT: 8/10 Awesome plot, but not enough action IMO. It's not just about the action, though. For instance, the ending, where Wichita and Little Rock are stuck on the drop-tower ride and zombies are climbing up to get them. I dunno, I was kinda expecting Columbus to reach them just in time to gun down the last zombie, but no, they meleed down the last zombie by themselves. Pssh.
Also, there was this part where Tallahasse slashes down this fat zombie with a massive scissors (garderner's scissors?)... but they don't show the actual slashing and cutting! They just show Tallahasse taking out his scissors and saying some stuff, and then you see Columbus smiling, and then the fight's over.
CREATIVITY: 8/10 Everything's cool with me - the humour, the whacky personalities, the Rules - but there're a few things that bug me. Okay, there's this scene where Columbus lets 406 take refuge in his home, and she becomes a zombie after a nap. When she wakes up, she has some blood on her face and her hair. Where the heck did the blood come from? She was asleep the whole time! Well, she should have been, or she would've eaten Columbus in his sleep, no?
There're a couple of other plotholes. And what seems to be plot-devices, like how Columbus and Tallahasse just so happens to find another truck loaded with a huge load of guns. What're the odds? And since the previous owner has so many guns, shouldn't he havedied only after he finished using all the guns? He doesn't even need to reload, he can just pick up another gun to fire. All that's left of his corpse, though, are a pair of hands still clutching the driving wheel.
Assuming he was panicking and didn't think of his weapons, and was just trying to get out of there as soon as possible - well, I can't think of anyone who would grip the driving wheel while getting eaten. Shouldn't his hands be eaten up as well?
DETAIL: 8/10 The setting and backgrounds are all good enough, everything's visible except in one or two night scenes. The zombies look realistic enough. Maybe it's just my imagination, though, but some corpses look really fake. At the beginning, when explaining Rule #1: Cardio, there's this fatty who's running from a zombie, before getting pinned down. But when showing the zombie devouring the fatty, I thought the fatty looked extremely fake. It's as though the zombie's eating a mannequin. I should know. ;)
AUDIO: 9/10 Everything that they say and do is pretty clear. You can hear their conversations so clearly, you don't even need subtitles. The zombies' cries and howls and other sounds are pretty clear as well. Y'know, because I just watched Lord of the Rings and I couldn't pick up most of the dialogue.
